Bittersweet
After checking in at the gate of Wakarusa 2008, we were told to run to the ditch if the tornado sirens went off. We found our camp sites and had just enough time to set up before we endured severe storms throughout the night, leading to all of the music for the 1st night being canceled. This is not what I expected my first festival experience to be like. After 2 days of on and off rain, sun, thunder, lightning, delayed music, sunburns, ankle high mud at most every stage, dancing, making new friends, and drinking good beer, we received a beautiful Day 3. This photo is a glimpse of a perfect ending to a perfect day. With Flaming Lips bringing their own storm of balloons, lights, confetti, and of course MUSIC, this picture captures a bittersweet moment in my life and I'm sure the lives of many others. At first glance, this photo just looks like a basic concert, but it was a lot more than that to the people there. It's a frozen memory of a group of people that shared space, time, experiences, and music together. It was a moment that I didn't want to end but one I knew would. It was a bittersweet ending to my first music festival.
