The Showdown
NO Jazz Fest weather was the WORST in 2013. It was COLD, RAINY, & MUDDY! The festival is held on a horse racing track so when I say muddy, I mean horse manure, NASTY. My friends and I, along with the other festival goers, were miserable, cold, wet, and waiting for Dave Matthews to close out the festival. Wallowing in our own misery, my friend Gabe and I had the idea that we did not intend/realize would become THE best Jazz Fest experience I've ever had (I've been going since I moved to New Orleans in 2005.) We walked right in the middle of a muddy area, picked up a handful of "mud", took ten paces away from each other, turned around, and FIRED!! After two obvious misses we decided we would each get 5 throws to see who could hit the other the best/most. Well it wasn't long before the crowd started booing and cheering as we had near misses and great hits! After the 5 we were encored to keep going. The circle around us got bigger and bigger and the crowd louder and louder and more rowdy. Within 10 minutes all Hell ensued and ourselves along with other wild festival goer's were slinging mud, wrestling, sliding, and dancing! Dave Matthews began his set in tune with another hard downpour and the party was ON!! It was awesome, so much fun! I had many other goers hi fiving me, hugging, taking pics, saying "Thank you, we needed that." Since then on at least 5 occasions around NO I've had people say "Hey, you are the mud guy, THANKS!" I have post mud pics, this is pre! tx
