The MOVEMENT Music Festival in Detroit, MI marries EDM, artists and those who love to play in costume for a 3 day musical ride in Hart Plaza, along Detroit's river. Of the 100's of photos my friend and I took, this one still stands out and brings back the fondest memories of the day. Perched amid the dancers, revelers and people watchers was this quiet, unassuming artist. He turned hesitantly to look at us as we came upon him and we snapped this shot. The peaceful, yet reluctant look on his face reminded us he was not there to pose for amateur photographers wearing media bands, or for any notoriety of his piece of work, but to embrace the day and capture his emotions of the music surrounding the Plaza, in his art. We took only just this one shot and nodded in silent understanding and moved on, not realizing we had captured the essence of the music fest in the Detroit skyline, the festival goers, as well as ourselves, in his sunglasses. We also delightedly noticed in the abstract of his painting, what looked to be a self portrait. Concerts and music fests to me, are an explosion of sound, color, light and art expressed in every personal, beautiful manner. I still smile when I look at this photo and remember this amazing day.
