The journey to the small city of Indio, California was an adventure in itself. We got lost in Riverside, receiving directions from homeless people and sitting through miles of slow-moving cars filled with excited festival goers on freeways whose names we had never heard. This was our last minute grown-up getaway. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival is a three-day desert oasis; it is freedom and anarachy. For many this is a yearly chance to escape from civilization as we know it as days are spent filled with music, drugs, people from all walks of life, and the desert heat. This is an experience of growth for all attendees. It is never known who you will be by the time you attempt that long returning drive home, covered in days of grime, dust, and sweat but filled with a new sense of adventure and identity. Coachella is what you make it but you also become what it makes you.
