Ballad of Love and Hate in Watercolor
I don't remember if that was the song that the Avett Bros. were playing when I took this photo with my crappy old Droid. Months earlier, I was holding the same beat-up phone waiting for the tickets for this show to go on sale, excited to have an advance purchase access code, afraid they would sell out in the small venue before I could buy them. Even at five seconds past the earlybird purchase time, I picked up two on the 9th row, not bad, Ticketmaster! I would rather listen to the music than take photos at a show because they are usually turn out so blurry and dark. When I downloaded the images later, the surprising bright watercolor look of this photo evoked for me the liquid references in these lyrics.
